A Rich and Satisfying Life

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.

My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

John  10:10

There is a direct connection between my heart’s desire for God to change me, and the level of my expectations that God is actively involved in my world and my life. The more I want God to change me, the more I will see God’s hand at work in my life. If we have any hesitation about wanting God to change our lives, John 10 can help us make up our mind.

As we ponder whether we really want to see God at work in our lives, and in our world, Jesus gives us his promise that he has come that we may have “a rich and satisfying life” (John 10:10b). Let that truth sink deep within you. Think of your mind as a brand-new white board on which you will write the answer to this question: “What does God want with me?”

Now write the answer: “To give me a rich and satisfying life.”

Jesus assures us that he knows our name. Jesus knows what it is like for you to be you. He doesn’t condemn or judge. His thoughts toward you are directed at leading you into a rich and satisfying life.  Jesus assures us that we can learn to know his voice; we can learn to distinguish his voice from all the noise of life. Jesus, our Messiah, is different from every king who has ever lived. Our King is more interested in our lives than his own. Why would I want to follow any other voice? Why would I not want to let him have his way with me?

My Takeaway: “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” (Philippians 2:13)

(Selah is a word that appears in the Book of Psalms that I often use as the Complimentary Closing in my correspondence. Its meaning, as I use the word, is to pause and think about these things.)
