Meditations for Seeking the Life in Christ

Sabbath Keeping
“Keep the Sabbath day holy.”
Isaiah 58: 13a
Read: Isaiah 58:13-14
My musings yesterday, and February 7, about the Sabbath, led me to today’s reading. Today’s passage ends at verse 14 with this: “I, the Lord, have spoken!” Yes, the Lord has spoken and instructed me to “Keep the Sabbath day holy.” So, how am I doing?
Almost thirty years ago, I read Hebrews 12:28 during my morning prayer time: “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe, . . .” (NRSV) That verse captivated me and guided my leadership of worship services. After I retired from leadership of Sunday worship services, I still was on a quest to join with the body of Christ in worship with reverence and awe. That quest led us to our present church where we are learning many ways to express our gratitude with reverence and awe.
We are saturated in worship and learning on Sunday mornings. Sunday afternoons are devoted to rest as we very seldom schedule any activities. We have found this combination of worship, learning and rest does prepare us for the week ahead.
My Takeaway: My focus, after Sunday mornings in church, has been on rest.
I am now asking the Lord to order my steps, so my focus is more on keeping the
Sabbath holy, and on God’s victory in Christ Jesus.

Book of Psalms that I often use as the Complimentary Closing in my
correspondence. Its meaning, as I use the word, is to pause and think about
these things.)
