God’s Extreme Makeover

God’s Extreme Makeover

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10
Read: Ephesians 2:8-10

In Ephesians 1:11, Paul affirmed that God “makes everything work out according to his plan.” In the previous passage, Paul affirmed our salvation is a gift of God’s grace. He continues that theme for the first few verses in today’s passage then he tells us why God saved us. What is God’s plan?

In verse 10, Paul affirms that salvation is God’s Extreme Makeover of us: “For we are God’s masterpiece.” Then Paul tells us why God gives us this makeover: “He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Some people think that salvation is about God saving them so that when they die they will go to heaven. However, that is not at all what Paul believed, is it? Several years ago, Henry Blackaby, the author of the Experiencing God Bible Study had cardiac bypass surgery. One of his sons reported that when Blackaby signed the multitude of papers required for hospital admission and surgery, he included the scripture citation, John 20:21 by each of his signatures.

“Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”

Henry Blackaby’s whole life has been directed to completing the Father’s assignments for him in fulfillment of Ephesians 2:10: “He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

My Takeaway: The Apostle Paul and Henry Blackaby are not the only ones created anew in Christ Jesus are they? We too, each of us, have been commissioned by God to do the good things he planned for us long ago. The first step in fulfilling God’s purpose for you is to accept Ephesians 2:10 as true for your life.

(Selah is a word that appears in the Book of Psalms that I often use as the Complimentary Closing in my correspondence. Its meaning, as I use the word, is to pause and think about these things.)
