Jesus’ Prayer of Thanksgiving
Then when they were
alone, he turned to the disciples and said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what
you have seen. I tell you, many prophets
and kings longed to see what you see, but they didn’t see it. And they longed
to hear what you hear, but they didn’t hear it.”
Luke 10:23-24
Read Luke 10:21-24
A few years ago, I led a discussion group on three books by Gene Edwards, including The Divine Romance. I thought about this book as I read today’s passage. In Edward’s book, he presents God’s incomprehensible love for the bride of Christ, His church. He also presents the eternal existence and relationship of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. In today’s passage, Luke presents all three persons of the Trinity.
Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Jesus spoke to his Father, Lord of heaven and earth. The Trinity is revealed in complete unity and harmony.
Then Jesus blessed his disciples, and by extension he blesses you and I, his disciples today. How can this be? We are blessed because our Father in heaven has revealed the truth of Jesus to us. We did not learn this from any human being. (See Matthew 16:17) This is just as we saw yesterday; Jesus does the calling, and Jesus does the revealing.
My Takeaway: The Apostle Paul understood this blessing of Jesus when he wrote, “The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18).

(Selah is a word that appears in the
Book of Psalms that I often use as the Complimentary Closing in my
correspondence. Its meaning, as I use the word, is to pause and think about
these things.)
