Harmony with God
May the God of peace himself
sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and
blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is
faithful, and he will do this.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
The very essence of living the
life in Christ is to live our life in harmony with God.
This is the end to which God is
working in us, enabling us both to will and to work for His good pleasure. To
accomplish His purpose God is sanctifying us completely, so that our spirit,
soul and body are in complete harmony with His will for us.
Some people talk about learning
to compartmentalize their life, as though we can separate our interests and
associations one from the other. That is not the way God designed us. If you
begin your day all out-of-sorts with your spouse, that disharmony will affect
every part of your day. If you have a terrible day at your office, your
troubles will follow you home. The only antidote is to begin immediately to
reconcile your troubled emotions with your right-standing as the beloved child
of God.
Some people even try to
compartmentalize their walk with God. They limit their prayers, their talk of
God and their expressions of devotion to God to the hour, or possibly two, they
spend at church each week. Sometimes these people wonder why there is so little
evidence of the fruit of the Spirit in their own life. God is working to
sanctify us entirely; however, we must yield ourselves to Him entirely to
experience His grace faithfully forming Christ within us.
Can you see His plan? God wants
the entirety of our being -- body, soul and spirit – walking in complete
harmony with Him. As we yield ourselves entirely to our Abba, we will find
ourselves loving mercy, acting justly and walking humbly in harmony with our
beloved Father. (Micah 6:8)

(Selah is a word that appears in the
Book of Psalms that I often use as the Complimentary Closing in my
correspondence. Its meaning, as I use the word, is to pause and think about
these things.)
