Meditations of the Gospel of Mark

Jesus Heals a Deaf Man
They were completely amazed and said again and again, “Everything he
does is wonderful. He even makes the deaf to hear and gives speech to those who
cannot speak.”
Mark 7:37
Read: Mark 7: 31-37
For the Jews, the way Mark
describes the healing of the deaf and mute man would immediately recall the
words of Isaiah 35: 5-6a,
And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind
and unplug the ears of the deaf.
The lame will leap like a deer,
and those who cannot speak will sing for joy!
The connection of the healing of
the deaf man and Isaiah’s prophecy of the coming of God’s Messiah explain
Mark’s closing observation:
Jesus told the crowd not to tell anyone, but the more he told them not
to, the more they spread the news. They were completely amazed and said again
and again, “Everything he does is wonderful. He even makes the deaf to hear and
gives speech to those who cannot speak.”
Mark 7:36-37
My Takeaway: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and
forever” (Hebrews 13:8). So, what I am experiencing in Jesus that compels me to
be amazed? Do I say again and again,
“Everything he does is wonderful?” How
about you?

(Selah is a word that appears in the
Book of Psalms that I often use as the Complimentary Closing in my
correspondence. Its meaning, as I use the word, is to pause and think about
these things.)
