The “Right Time” Is Now

The “Right Time” Is Now

Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.

Hebrews 5:8-9

On Monday of this week, November 9, 2020, I wrote that we are living in a culture that is dominated by either / or / beliefs; either you love me, or you hate me. Everything seems to be communicated in absolute terms. However, there is one glaring exception to this cultural value. If we were to ask for a vote of acceptance of this statement of Jesus, do you think it would pass?

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.

No one can come to the Father except through me.”

John 14:6

I think not, at least not in the present culture of the USA. But,

“The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction!

But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.”

1 Corinthians 1:18

The Good News is we are living in an age of grace. God does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. (2 Peter 3:9) All four of these scripture passages have one thing in common. All point to God’s desire for all people to be saved, and all point to God’s requirement that all people turn from their sinful ways, repent, and turn to Him. When we do, we rejoice, “For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” (2 Corinthians 6:2)

My Takeaway: That last scripture ends with this line:

“Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.”

Perhaps today we will encounter someone for whom God wants this day to be their “right time.” Let us be prepared to welcome them, “Come. And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift” (Revelation 22:17 NRSV).

(Selah is a word that appears in the Book of Psalms that I often use as the Complimentary Closing in my correspondence. Its meaning, as I use the word, is to pause and think about these things.)
