The Roman Road

The Roman Road

For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:13
Read Romans 10:5-13

“So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ” (Romans 10:17). Sharing the Good News of Jesus with others should include both our personal experience with Christ, and the Good News of scripture. Following the ‘Roman Road’ has long been a helpful way to share the Good News about Christ.

Begin at Romans 3:23, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”

Next go to Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Now go to Romans 10:9-10, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”

Then celebrate the Good News at Romans 10:13, “For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

My Takeaway: Our Bishop recently spoke to our congregation. He shared a very personal and very convicting event from his past. He had been trying to help a homeless person for several years. One day the man came to him and announced, “I’ve met Jesus and he saved my soul.” The Bishop, then a pastor of a church, had done a lot of things to help the man, but he hadn’t done the most needed. He hadn’t offered to introduce the man to Jesus. If only our first, or second or third inclination was to take the Roman Road.

(Selah is a word that appears in the Book of Psalms that I often use as the Complimentary Closing in my correspondence. Its meaning, as I use the word, is to pause and think about these things.)
