God Is Faithful and True
Then one of the twenty-four
elders asked me, “Who are these who are clothed in white? Where did they come
from?”
Revelation 7:13
In Revelation 7, John’s vision
gives the assurance that those who died as martyrs for their faith are not
lost. These faithful ones have been brought into the very presence of God.
John’s vision was a message from God to the churches. It was an encouragement
to persevere in the face of persecution. Even though they were called to what
may have seemed an impossible task, against an insurmountable force, God was
giving the churches His assurance that their work, their faithfulness was not
futile. The movement of God will not be defeated. God is faithful and true.
Those who give their last full measure for the cause of Christ will not be
forgotten by God.
God’s message to the first
century churches is as applicable and true today in the twenty-first century.
With our mortal eyes, we cannot see what God sees, which is why the Apostle
Paul wrote, “For we live by believing and not by seeing” (2 Corinthians 5:7).
When our eyes are weak and we doubt the sufficiency of our strength or resources
for the task for which we are called by God, let us always remember our
destiny:
“These are the ones who died in
the great tribulation. They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb
and made them white.
“That is why they stand in front
of God’s throne
and serve him day and night in his Temple.
And he who sits on the throne
will give them shelter.
They will never again be hungry
or thirsty;
they will never be scorched by the heat of
the sun.
For the Lamb on the throne
will be their Shepherd.
He will lead them to springs of
life-giving water.
And God will wipe every tear from their
eyes.”
Revelation 7:14b-17

(Selah is a word that appears in the
Book of Psalms that I often use as the Complimentary Closing in my
correspondence. Its meaning, as I use the word, is to pause and think about
these things.)
