Meditations on The Acts of the Apostles

Paul in Ephesus
Acts 19:6
Read: Acts 19:1-10
When Paul left Corinth, he stopped briefly in Ephesus, then journeyed on to Jerusalem and Antioch. After spending some time in Antioch, Paul began his third missionary journey, and eventually he arrived in Ephesus, the city where he remained the longest in his missionary journeys (almost 3 years).
His first encounter in Ephesus was with disciples of John the Baptist. Paul arrived the second time in Ephesus about twenty-two years after Pentecost. Even with Apollos, Priscilla and Aquila in Ephesus, for perhaps as long as two years, building on Paul’s work from his first brief visit, there were still people who knew of John the Baptist, but not of Jesus. After Paul spoke to them about Jesus these new believers received the same outpouring of the Holy Spirit as the disciples first received on the Day of Pentecost.
After introducing us to Priscilla and Aquila in the previous chapter, other than three passing references in Paul’s letters, they are not mentioned again. (Romans 16:3, I Corinthians 16:19, and 2 Timothy 4:19)
My Takeaway: Never assume people already know about the Good News of Jesus. “Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Matthew 9:37-38)

(Selah is a word that appears in the Book of Psalms that I often use as the Complimentary Closing in my correspondence. Its meaning, as I use the word, is to pause and think about these things.)
